July 10, 2014 Experiment
I’ve mentioned before about how I tend to freeze up when trying to come up with topics to write about. I have ideas all the time, but when it comes down to actually writing, I can’t ever remember any of them and then I panic. It’s a weird self-imposed thing, I know, but it’s there a lot.
I’ve had a sorta-idea for a while about prompted writing, with its roots in improv. In improv, I’m given topics or ideas which I then need to create a scene about. I’ve often wondered if I could accomplish that same sort of thing here: someone submits a word, a phrase, or a question which I could then answer in a post. This wouldn’t be an “all the time” thing, more of another thing to use once in a while. I’m looking into getting an anonymous submission form that I could put in the sidebar, and I guess we’ll see how it goes. I just need to figure out how to ask for submissions, as things like “watch 6 seasons of a [particular show] and rank every episode” wouldn’t be the most helpful.
I wanted to let you know about this so you can be thinking about it, but also so you can pass advice along to me if you have some.
*Just for the record, the above picture and caption is me imagining responses to my posts, not me reacting to suggestions.
